Recertification Policy for B.C. Structural IPM Applicators (5-year certificate holders only)

To participate in the Continuing Education Credit (CEC) program and maintain your certification
please review and follow the policy outlined below:
Eligibility & Registration

All B.C. applicators must be registered in the credit program. If you are not already registered, please complete a registration form.

You must hold a current Structural IPM 5-year certificate to be eligible for recertification through continuing education credits

Attendance & Credit Tracking
-
It is the applicator's responsibility to ensure credit is received for each session attended and that sufficient credits, in the correct categories, are earned for recertification.

You must have your attendance verification form punched at the end of each training session as you exit the classroom. Please note all credit sheets must be turned in at the end of each session. Each sheet must be correctly filled out and clearly holepunched in order to be counted for credit.

Submit the top copy of your punched verification form at the registration desk at the end of each training day. Keep the bottom copy for your records.
Credit Requirements for Recertification
A certificate may be reissued before its expiry date or within one year after that date without requiring the applicant to sit the examination required under section 19(1) (c) of the IPM Act Regulations if:

Earn 20 continuing education credits within the 5 years preceding your renewal application date related to the examination matter set out in *Schedule 3 below.

Obtain a minimum of 3 credits in each of the following core categories:

Pest Management

Application Technology
-
Human Health and/or Pesticide Safety

Earn credits in at least 4 of the 5 years (before the current certificate expiry date) prior to your renewal application date.

Each course may only be counted once per 5-year cycle for credit.

Renewal Process

Email info@spmabc.com at least two months before your certificate expiration date to ensure your records are up to date.

Once you receive your recertification approval, submit your renewal letter and the $25.00 renewal fee to the Ministry of Environment to receive your new certificate.

Ensure your certificate details are accurate and current; this is your responsibility.

Please note technicians are recommended to reach out to us via email no less than 2 months prior to expiry date to confirm their renewal status.
Covid 19 Recertitication Policies (2020-2025) Applicants whose certificate issue and expiry dates spanned the 2020 or 2021 year may qualify for exemptions as listed below. Applicants who may qualify for exemptions are still required to earn the required number of credits overall and in each category. ​ Temporary exemption from the maximum number of online credits toward recertification. was in effect until May 30th 2024. The requirement that credits must be earned in 4 of the 5 years of the license period was exempted for members who have a certificate expiring in 2020, 2021 or 2022, or 2023. Please note the exemptions above were granted on a case-by-by-case basis and were entirely at the discretion of the Ministry.
